Do I need any document to enter the country?

Ukrainians can enter Hungary without any travel documents (e.g., passports). They do not need to register as asylum seekers on arrival to take advantage of refugee status, but some choose to do so.

What support can I get when I enter the country?

Meals, accommodation, and medical help are provided for free.

What support can I get if I am a person living with diabetes?

Medical teams are active in proximity to the border with Ukraine to test people for COVID19 and to ask about medical needs, including whether you have diabetes and need to receive insulin.

Prescriptions for insulin and other diabetes medications are not needed. If you need special medical help, you can be treated at the “Szabolcs-Szatmar Bereg Megyei Korházak és Egyetemi Oktatókórház – Josa Andras Teaching Hospital”, where you will find healthcare professionals who can speak Ukrainian and Russian. Together with the Medical University of Debrecen, these are the closest medical facilities to the border. If needed, you can also seek medical help in other medical facilities across the country.
